My #1 Assignment Essay

Christie Huber
Technology in Education
I have been a nanny for two young boys for over two years. One of the boys is going into 6th grade, and the other is going into 4th grade. I have helped them with countless amounts of homework and projects, and have really acquired a passion for helping them learn how to well, learn! This summer, the boys both received laptops. I was quite surprised that their mother would let such young and wild boys have such an expensive item. But little did I know, that not only would the boys play video games and watch their favorite T.V shows on the laptops, but they also have learned not only about technology, but learned information that they need to know in math, English, and various other subjects.
I think that there are so many factors that encourage the use of technology in education. One factor is how easy it makes learning. Forget about all of the papers, using a laptop helps save the hassle of using countless amounts of paper in the classroom. It also makes learning so much more fun. I remember when I was in kindergarten, we had the most exciting fun math program on the computers called number munchers. I even begged my parents to buy the game for me at home because I found it so entertaining, and it also put smiles on their faces because they knew that I was actually having fun while learning how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
I believe technology plays a huge role in teaching. At the high school that I attended, instead of using the messy chalk boards and dry erase boards, we got a new exciting board called the Smart Board. It was so cool because teachers could show us power points, or we could watch movies right from the screen, and it also acted as a dry erase board, because you could write on it too! It was also really fun because sometimes our teachers would give each student a remote and we would all play an interactive educational game on the smart board. It was a fun, new, and technology savvy way of learning, and my school was hooked!
I define educational technology as the new way of teaching. A new, fun, and extremely beneficial way of learning. I know from personal experience, that it is much more engaging to learn from a cool new technologic program than an old dusty chalk board!
